SoftWashing is an environmentally responsible, low pressure, non-destructive, longer lasting alternative to pressure-washing and delivers outstanding results on most building and external surfaces.
The foundations of SoftWashing lie within horticultural science. Specialised solutions combining water, bleach, surfactants, algaecides and residual inhibitors are applied to both organic and non-organic staining and biological growths (lichens, mosses, algae, mold and bacteria) in a process combining both pest control and stain removal.
In nature, organic and biological growths feed on and break down hard surfaces in the process of forming sands and soils, this is called decomposition or bio-deterioration. Water under pressure (rain, wind and hail) strip away surface materials that have been weakened through decomposition or environmental ageing. This is erosion. Both decomposition and erosion are at work on most organically stained structures and are exacerbated by pressure washing.
In addition to physical damage, pressure washing essentially mows or prunes organic growths, driving root filaments and spoors deeper into substrates and increasing sub-surface moisture levels, inadvertently promoting stronger, healthier and accelerated regrowth.
SoftWashing by contrast kills all biological growths including root filaments and spoors leaving surfaces both clean and sanitised. This inhibits future regrowth and deterioration whilst removing the potential health risks inherent in surface staining moulds, fungi, algaes and bacteria, all of which feature in the top 10 of the Allergy Irritants list and are known contributors to Sick Building Syndrome.
SoftWashing chemicals are either sprayed onto surfaces or applied via long-reach pole. We can therefore clean most domestic, and many commercial and industrial buildings and industrial units from the ground, negating the use of ladders or access equipment.
On rare occasions where SoftWashing proves less than 100% effective we will employ a DOFF Superheated Steam Cleaning System, also low pressure and non-destructive.
